Preface

Newscasting contest is one of the branch contests of PORSIMAPTAR 2021 English Competition held by Indonesian Police Academy . Newscasting contest is a competition where the participants will simulate delivering news as professional anchor.

Competition Sequences

The competition will be held online through Video Submission and Zoom Meeting. The competition consists of two rounds, which are:

  1. Preliminary
    • The preliminary round will be held via video submission
    • Participants are required to deliver one hard news and one soft news.
    • The article will be provided by the committee one day before the preliminary round
    • Participants have to recreate the articles given into presentable script
    • Participants are required to record the video for 3 minutes long at maximum
    • Participants are required to upload the video to YouTube and submit the link to the committee via Google form
    • Video should not contain either cut scenes or edits
    • The participants are allowed to bring the script while performing
    • Video format of the file name: (Name_Competition field_University/School)
      Example: Imanuel Siahaan_Newscasting_Police Academy
    • The number of participants moving to the next round are 7 from universities and 7 from high schools
  2. Final
    • The Newscasting final round will be held on Zoom Meeting
    • The committee will give the participants a themed news reading and points
    • The participants will make and develop the script by themselves based on the theme
    • and points given by the committee
    • When reading the news, there will be an interview with the juries
    • Each participant has 7 minutes to do the news reading and the interview

Scoring Aspects

  1. Performance (presentation, confidence, eye contact, grooming, expression and gesture)
  2. Material (topic understanding, intonation, tempo, and timing).
  3. English ability (vocabulary, grammar, fluency, and pronunciation)

General Rules

  1. Participants in this competition must be a senior high school student or varsity student.
  2. Participants must have already registered themselves.
  3. The quota of participants for the newscasting competition are 20 senior high school students and 20 varsity students. If the number of participants doesn’t meet the minimum quota, the committees have the right to terminate the competition.
  4. The judges’ decisions are final

Competition Rules

  1. Final round of the competition will be held online through Zoom Meeting. Participants have to make sure that their devices are working properly (Laptop/PC, functioning camera, speaker, mic, and a working internet connection)
  2. Participants must mute their microphones during the competition. Participants are only allowed to unmute their microphone when it’s their turn to perform.
  3. Participants should change their name in the Zoom Meeting room to (zoom name format)
  4. Participants must be present and are not allowed to be represented by anyone else.
  5. The judges’ decisions are final and all participants should respect every decision from the judges.
  6. If there are technical difficulties such as errors in internet connection, participants are allowed to continue their performance with a maximum accumulative of 7 minutes.
  7. Participants must wear formal attire.

Participants Eligibility

  1. Participants must be enrolled in high school or a varsity
  2. Participants should show their student identity card at the time of registration.
  3. Maintain eligibility at the competition. The participant will be disqualified if discovered ineligible to compete
  4. Each participant must be present to compete and cannot be represented by anything else other than themselves.

Introduction

Speech Competition is one of the branch competitions held by PORSIMAPTAR 2021 National English Competition. Speech Competition is an individual competition where the participants are required to deliver their own speech based on the themes given.

Competition Rounds

Competition will be held online through Zoom Meeting on October 18th 2021. The competition consists of two rounds, which are:

  1. Preliminary (Video Submission)
    • Each participant has 5-7 minutes to deliver their speech.
    • Participants must prepare their own speech based on the theme decided per category
    • The theme for High School Category is “Cultural Fade Away”
    • The theme for Varsity Category is “Extinction of Privacy”
    • Participants are restricted from bringing any form of script or notes during the performance
    • Participants are allowed to use props to support their performance
    • Participants will be judged based on the speech content, pronunciation, and confidence.
    • The video must be in MP4 format and must be unedited in any way.
    • Participants are only allowed to name their file submission with the format (FULL NAME_CATEGORY_INSTITUTION)  Example: ADAM_SPEECH VARSITY_AKPOL
    • Each Participants are required to upload their performance to YouTube
    • The participants are only required to submit the YouTube link of their performance through Google Form (LINK GFORM)
    • The number of participants moving to the next round per category is 7.
    • Participants who pass the requirements to the final round will be announced via Instagram
  2. Final (Live performance)
    • Final Round performance order will be announced during the Technical Meeting at October 15th Via ZOOM meeting.
    • The final round will be held via ZOOM meeting using two breakout rooms, the preparation room and the performance room.
    • Participants are required to prepare speech for two themes announced after the final round announcement.
    • The theme of speech that the participants have to perform will be picked for each participant in the Preparation Room.
    • Participants each have 5 minutes to prepare their speech in the preparation room.
    • Participants are restricted from bringing any form of script or notes during the performance.
    • The participants will be required to enter the performance room to deliver the speech according to the order decided beforehand.
    • Each participant has 7-10 minutes to deliver their speech.
    • After the performance participants are required to go back to the preparation room.
